In this article we discuss the benefits of moisturisers for oily skin.
So many of us think that avoiding making skin more moist will help us when it comes to spots, clogged pores and other blemishes, but guess what… you’re wrong! There are lotions and potions for every skin type…

Moisturiser for Oily Skin?
Believe it or not… oily skin can still get dehydrated. Dehydration leads to an overproduction of sebum which in turn leads to more blackheads and these may then become angry little whiteheads, which then leads to mass breakout!
The same goes for cleansers and toners, many of which can dry out skin, stripping you of your natural oils which again leads to the cycle of blemishes.
Find the right moisturiser for you
We all have different skin and there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to skincare routines. Booking a facial with a professional will allow them to diagnose what type of skin you have, and it is totally possible you’ve thought you’ve always had oily skin, but it turns out you have combination skin… like many, many people. Skincare can be a complex subject due to certain areas of the face and neck requiring different treatment, so speaking to a professional will help ascertain what your skin really needs in order to glow and be blemish free.
*Top Tip: If you’re prone to milia and heavy white heads, then using a lighter moisturiser will help from clogging pores with creamy textured moisturisers.
Don’t shy away from face oils
The thought of applying oil to your face may make your inner teenager cringe at the thought of adding to the oil, but face oils are a great way to keep skin hydrated and dewey – rather than oily. Applying oils after cleaning and toning will help restore the skins natural oils and have long lasting hydration, so can be applied morning and night with a little facial massage to stimulate collagen production – a “win win” habit to get into!
Drink plenty of water
The other thing any facialist or beauty therapist will tell you that alongside a tailored skincare routine, drinking plenty of water is essential to maintaining great skin.
*Top Tip: Add a squeeze of lemon to your water once or twice a day will really help for those who have spot-prone skin or who may suffer from hormonal breakouts.
